Elliotto vanished for a long time during a woods walk this week. OK. Working with fear. Brought Chloe back to the car, settled her in, then went back out & tai-chi'ed in the woods, calling for him between moves.

He finally reappeared, looking like a lobster-space-alien, a thicket of porcuprickles bristling out of his snoot.
Got most of them out with Timothy's help, but then, the next day, noticed him worrying at a spot where a couple of quills had worked themselves in all the way under the skin of the inner thigh.
