Neighbors Meeting Neighbors at the Hinge of the Year
On the first day of 2022, four neighbors (Julie, Marilyn, Sarah, and Erin) decided to brave the cold and go for a creative wander together through the streets of Starr Hill. We took inspiration from the Swiss Sylvesterchläusen traditions that Julie had experienced in her birth country (see below). Our directions were simple:
Wear costumes! Make noise! Sing! Greet one another! Chase out the stagnation of Winter and bring in good wishes for the New Year!
Amazingly enough, additional neighbors met us with food and warm drinks. We played improvised instruments, ate things, and walked together. A tradition was born.
This year, we are stepping up our efforts to include more Starr Hill residents in this event. Whether you have lived here forever or just arrived yesterday, we would be honored and delighted to have your company.
